NEWS FLASH: Thousands of West Virginians Are Speaking Up for New Transmission

January 16, 2026

Former Senate President – Lieutenant Governor

“Zero to 60 in three seconds.” You’ve heard the expression about powered‑up cars.

That same speed now describes how fast support is growing for a stronger electric grid in West Virginia. In just a short time, more than 6,000 West Virginians have signed a petition calling for better grid security and reliability. These neighbors understand the urgent need for electric grid upgrades and newer, stronger transmission lines that can meet today’s demands. They dare to stand up and be counted.

This is no fringe issue. It’s a crucial mainstream concern for the people who work, build, teach, and power West Virginia and who are working to move our communities forward.

The people who build our state agree: “New transmission projects mean jobs for skilled workers. Modern infrastructure keeps our lights on and people working.” That’s from the WV Associated Builders and Contractors.

Manufacturers that create thousands of jobs in our communities agree: “West Virginia manufacturing requires reliable power, which means modernizing the grid. A stronger and more resilient grid keeps our plants running, our workers on the job, and our products moving to market,” Bill Bissett, President of the WV Manufacturers Association.

President Trump recognizes the need for a reliable electric grid to support his plans for an America First economy. “Lack of reliability in the electric grid puts the national and economic security of the American people at risk,” he said just months after taking office. The Administration declared a “national energy emergency” and made modernizing America’s grid a top priority.

The President is right. The electric grid is the backbone of our economy and daily life. It’s aging faster than it’s being repaired. A reliable, secure grid isn’t optional, it’s an America First, and West Virginia First priority.

That’s why WVRAE is asking citizens to act now. The petition goes straight to the elected officials who decide our infrastructure future.

Why sign now?

Because delay costs real money. Power outages mean spoiled food, lost paychecks, and closed businesses. And when companies can’t count on reliable power, they invest somewhere else. When we wait, costs increase.

More than 6,000 West Virginians already understand this and have taken a stand for jobs, reliability, and a brighter future for our kids and communities.

Now it’s your turn. Add your name. Make this message impossible for our leaders to ignore.

The petition:

We stand with President Trump in fighting for an America First economy and unleashing America’s energy dominance. But we cannot win that fight with an electric grid built for the last century. Weak, aging power lines hold America back.

We call on West Virginia’s public officials to support new, modern transmission lines that support an America First economy, unleash America’s energy dominance, make our communities safe and secure, while leading to affordable energy prices.
